Richard "Dick" Dewey Baker

Richard “Dick” Dewey Baker, age 75, of Albion, IN passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 6, 1938 to Dewey and Helen (Fisher) Baker. On August 22, 1957 he married Rosalie Price at Wawaka Brethren Church. They were married 56 years and over the course of their marriage together they lived in Cromwell, In; Antwerp, Ohio; South Milford, In; Marietta, GA; Angola, In; Vinita, OK; and retired to Manatee Springs, FL before moving back to Albion, In to be by their family. Dick worked at Weatherhead (Dana) as an engineer which he retired from in Vinita, OK after 40 years. He was a Cromwell volunteer fireman and one of their first EMT’s, and served as a member of their town board for a number of years. Mr. Baker was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He served honorably in the Korean War. Mr. Baker enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and was a very good all-around fix it man. Dick is survived by his wife Rosalie, daughter Tammy (Jim) Hochstetler, Sons Richard (Wendy), Bay City MI, and William (Nida), Ligonier IN. He has seven grandchildren, JD (Sherry) Hochstetler, Jennifer (Michael) Frey, Tina Annett, Adam Baker, Angela (KP) Prany, Jill Baker, and Brandon Grayson. Mr. Baker is also survived by a step grandson Brian Dinsmore, and a number of great grandchildren; three siblings Nancy Dobbins, Goshen, Dean (Sally) Baker of Milford, and Becky (Douglas) Koher, of Warsaw. Dick is preceded in death by his mother and father Helen and Dewey Baker, a brother Jack and a sister Pat, and son Thomas. A memorial service will be held in Mr. Baker’s honor on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 2 PM at Yeager Funeral Home with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, IN. There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
