Kenneth N. Franks, 90, of Wawaka, IN passed away on July 16, 2013 in Ligonier, IN. He was born on January 18, 1923 in Ligonier, IN to Karl and Leona M. (Raubert) Franks. He married Martha Dewey. She preceded him in death. He then married JoAnne Damon on August 18, 1998 in Hot Springs, SD.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne, of Wawaka, IN., and 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Norma Jean Lepird and Marilyn Janis Michael, and a nephew.
After high school, Kenneth worked on an iron ore freighter on the Great Lakes for a summer. Mr. Franks honorably served his country in the United States Army in WWII and Korea. He graduated from Optometry School in Chicago, IL. He was a member of Ligonier Presbyterian Church and the Ligonier Chamber of Commerce. He was also a Boy Scout Master. He was a Rural Mail Carrier, befriending all of the kids and dogs on his route, and the owner of Franks Sporting Goods. After his retirement, Mr. Franks delivered meals to the home bound.
A funeral service in his honor will be Saturday July 20, 2013 at 11 A.M. at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ligonier American Legion.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday July 19, 2013 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Ligonier Presbyterian Church.
