Dean A. Parson, 80, of Ligonier passed away at 8:30 AM on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Goshen Hospital. He was born on January 7, 1933 to Verlin and Ruby (Sutton) Parson in Wabash County, IN. On March 30, 1957, he married Janice Florey in Wabash, IN they were married for 48 years before she preceded him in death in 2005. He is survived by three beloved children, Doug (Valerie) Parson of New Haven, Greg (Carmel) Parson of Rome City, and Laura Scott of Ligonier; seven precious grandchildren, John Parson and his fiancée Julie, Chad and Laura Scott, Tabitha and Matthew Ray, Ethan Parson, Nicholas Thomas, Thalia Parson and Trinity Parson; three precious great-grandchildren, Alexander, Annalyse-Jan and Claire; four siblings, Joyce and Jim Emerick of Florida, Carol and Orville Owens of Warsaw, Tony and Barb Parson of North Machester and Max Parson Wabash; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dixie and Terry Goodrich of South Whitley, Monte and Mary Florey of Leesburg, Sharon Florey of Andrews and Norma Florey of Silver Lake; many nieces and nephews; and several special friends, Bob and Marion Vick and their children of Indianapolis, Bill (deceased) and Peg Huddleston of Wabash, and Gene Stavdahl. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his baby daughter, Teena Lynn; his parents- in- law, Charles and Geneva Florey; one brother, Robert; sister- in- law Patricia; brothers-in-law, Larry Florey and Leo Florey; a niece, Heather Florey; and a nephew, Michael Emerick. Dean honorably served his country as a helmsman in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the aircraft carriers USS Bennington and the USS Leyte. He was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church and also the West Noble American Legion. In 2005 Dean was baptized at Faith Freewill Baptist church in Kendallville. He was a farmer, long haul truck driver and retired in 1998 from Jeld- Wen here in Ligonier. A funeral will be held in Dean’s honor on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 2 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Pastor Jean Ness will be officiating the service. Burial will follow the service at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier. Friends may call on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 3-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home.
