Alva Linden Mynhier, 92, of Ligonier, passed away at 10:30 PM on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. He was born to Edwin and Stella (Hunt) Mynhier, Sr. on August 27, 1920 in Kentucky. He married Dorothy M. Willsey on May 11, 1946. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Ligonier; two sons, Steven (Julia) Mynhier, Sr. of Wawaka, IN and Denis (Georgia) Mynhier of Ligonier. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are a sister, Vivian “Peggy” (William) Shull of Columbia City, IN; and three brothers, Edwin (Eileen) Mynhier, Jr., Odas (Shirley) Mynhier of Elkhart and Charles (Inez) Mynhier of Brimfield, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Mynhier was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Mynhier; a sister-in-law, Helen Hunt-Mynhier; and a nephew, Anthony Mynhier. Mr. Mynhier served his country honorably in the United States Army in WWII, having been stationed in Europe and Alaska. He was a Machinist at Essex Wire for almost 40 years. After his retirement, he worked at Owen’s Grocery Store for over 30 years. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and loved playing cards. A funeral service will be held in Alva's honor at Yeager Funeral Home on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 2PM. Father Wilson Corzo will officiate. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM with a Rosary service being held at 8 PM.
