Virgil R. Price

Virgil R. Price, age 97, a lifetime resident of Ligonier passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 1:45 pm at his son's home in San Diego. He was born on June 27, 1915 in Ligonier, IN to Ray C. and Ruby D. (Olinghouse) Price. He married Bertie M. Thunander November 12, 1938; she preceded him in death December 1, 1998.

Virgil retired from Essex Wire as a mechanic in 1982 and was also an employee of Studebaker's in South Bend working finish coat in spray booths until when they closed auto manufacturing in 1964. Virgil also ran his own business, Price Paint and Repair which he painted many cars in the Ligonier area. He always had a love for working on cars. Always being productive working long hours whether working on uncle’s farms helping to support his mother and younger siblings during the depression years to working at auto manufacturer and at his own business garage at night developing a reputation as the best auto painter in the area.

Mr. Price was medically discharged from the United States Army during the War and was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and American Legion.

Survivors include son, Steven (Elsa) Price of San Diego; one grandson Nelson (Arlene) Price of San Diego; two great grandchildren, Kristofer Ryan and Kaycee Anna; one sister, Norma Jean Miller of Cromwell. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, Ray (June 11, 1951) and Ruby Price (August 21, 1970); brothers and sister, Charles Edward (Eleanor) Price (March 25, 2005), Betty (Jerry) LeMieux (May 19, 1982), Robert (Eileen) Price (March 7, 2008).

A memorial service in Virgil’s honor will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Miller, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.

Visitation from will be held Thursday February 7, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
