James P. “Jim” Wallace, 81, of Ligonier, passed away at 12:45 P.M. Friday January 11, 2013 at Avalon Village in Ligonier. He was born on May 16, 1931 to Russell and Altha L. (Harn) Wallace. He married Greta M. Robbins on January 22, 1955 in Elkhart, IN. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by a son, Rock D. (Valorie Slaughter) Wallace of Avilla, IN, and 2 daughters: Ren (Kerry) Sprunger of Topeka, IN and Ranell (Dave) Enders of Princeton, IA. 6 Grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren survive. Also surviving is a brother, Richard T. (Donna) Wallace of Petersburg, IN. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Patterson in 1979, and a brother, John A. “Jack” Wallace.
Mr. Wallace served his country in the United States Navy for 4 years. He was a member of Ligonier Evangelical Church and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine in Ft. Wayne, Cromwell Business Association, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Noble County Shrine Club. He retired from the Cromwell Fire Department, where he served for 31 years as a Volunteer Fireman, and was a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association.
Jim & Greta owned operated the Cromwell Advance print shop. He was the former publisher of the Cromwell Advance newspaper, and was the General Manager of the Advance- Leader newspaper. He took the photos for West Noble High School sports for many years. He was an avid supporter of their sports teams and was awarded an Honorary Letter from West Noble High School. He was a gifted artist who painted or silk- screened many area business signs and windows. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
A funeral service in his honor will be at 11 A.M. on Saturday January 19, 2013 at Ligonier Evangelical Church. Pastor Troy Diersing will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery with his wife.
Friends may call on Friday from 5-7 P.M. at Yeager Funeral Home 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family 2 hours prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.
