John R Butts

John Butts, age 85, of Albion, IN and formerly of St. James, MO went to be with the Lord January 8, 2013 at 4:05 AM following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1927 in Chelsea, MA to John and Elsie (Gill) Butts. On May 11, 1975, John married Dorthy L. Christian.

John had attended Chelsea Schools in Chelsea, Ma. John served his country during WWII in the US Army. He was a member of the VFW in Peoria, IL. He retired from Caterpillar after 35 years as a machinist. John enjoyed fishing, camping, building model cars, and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, seven children: John Jr. (Jackie) of Haverhill, MA, Henry (Lisa) Butts of Danvers, MA, John of Lowell, MA, Tim of Clinton, IL, Tom of Wawaka, IN, Mary (Dave) Underwood of Wawaka, and Amanda (Brad) Wagner of St. James, MO and two stepchildren; Patricia Burgess of Chilicothe, IL, and Geraldine Dorriety of Chelsea, MA; 13 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren; one brother, Carl Jim Butts of Amesbury, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; two grandchildren; one brother; and seven sisters.

A graveside service in John’s honor will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Sparta Cemetery, Kimmel, IN with Pastor Jimmy Shepherd officiating.
