Burlyn C. Conkling, 98, of Cromwell, IN, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 1:55 PM at Northridge Village in Albion. He was born on September 14, 1914 to Grey Sloan and Ethel Mae (Smith) Conkling in Bureau County, IL. On January 19, 1936 he married Gladys I. Prentice; she preceded him in death in March of 1977. On February 2, 1978 Burlyn married Virginia M. CoMack; she preceded him in death in September of 1996. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon K. (Alan) Beers of Kimmell and Carolyn A. (Richard) Adair of Cromwell; two stepdaughters, Kay (Jerry) Hendy of Gas City, Becky (Larry) Morgan of Jonesboro; two stepsons, James Kinzie of Marion and Terry (Peggy) Kinzie of Marion; one half brother, Kenneth E. Conkling of Texas; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; two half brothers, Glenn G. Conkling and Lyle W. Conkling; a brother, Gail G. Conkling; a sister Artie M. Oliver; and a grandson, Michael Adair. Burlyn was a farmer and self-employed carpenter and contractor for many years. He was a member of Broadway Christian Chapel. Burlyn enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, fishing, camping & traveling. A funeral service will be held at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767 on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11 AM with Rev. Richard Rensner officiating. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 and from 10-11 AM prior to the service on Thursday.
