Kenneth R. Sanford

Kenneth R. Sanford, 89, of Ligonier, passed away at 6:33 P.M. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. He was born to Ross & Ruth (Link) Sanford on Jan. 14, 1923 in Defiance, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Damon on August 14, 1968 in Ligonier, she survives. He graduated from Defiance High School in Defiance, OH in 1942. He then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps, 9th Air Force from 1943-45 during WWII. He served in the European Theatre, incredibly completing over 61 successful flight missions. Following the war he flew as a crop duster, owned and operated Sanford Construction and farmed. Kenneth was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church and was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Sanford is survived by his wife; two Sons, Gregory (Judy) Sanford of St. Albans, Missouri and Russel (Carolyn) Sanford of Shelbyville, IN; a daughter, Sue Ann Larkin of LaGrange, GA; two step-sons, Brian (Jill) Hazelton of Hamlet, IN and Bruce (Leah) Hazelton of Ligonier; 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys (Bob) Baker of Holgate, OH and Elizabeth Wells of South Bend, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Lois Kleinhen, Ray Sanford, Ethel Stuckey, and Cecil Sanford. A funeral service in Mr. Sanford’s honor will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11 AM with Pastor Byron Kaiser officiating at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier with full military honors. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 3-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier, IN. Memorial contributions may be directed to Ligonier United Methodist Church.
