Marvin Willis Phares, age 90, of Wolcottville was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange. Marvin was born in Ligonier to Cecil and Frances (Ozier) Phares on October 4, 1921. He graduated from Wawaka High School in 1939. He married Laveta Bitner on February 24, 1949. Marvin was a member of Cosperville Baptist Church. Marvin loved his family. He was a supporter of the 4-H program in Elkhart Township and the Noble County 4-H Fair. He served in WWII in the Navy. He enjoyed attending reunions for his ship LST 753. He also enjoyed sports. He is survived by two sons, Lyle (Pennie) Phares of Ligonier and Kent (Barb) Phares of Celina, OH; three daughters, Susan (Ken) Brumbaugh of Churubusco/Albion, Carol Phares of Middlebury and Deborah (Mark) Grossman of Wolcottville; 19 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; and 1 great great- grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laveta Phares in April 2012; a daughter, Marvene Phares in March of 1968. A funeral service will be held in Marvin’s honor on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10am at Stone’s Hill Community Church, 151 Stone’s Hill Road; Ligonier, IN, with Pastors Jim Barnes and Nathan Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN. Pallbearers will be Samuel, Peter, Drew & Dustin Phares, Ben and Mathew Grossman, and Michael Studebaker. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 2-8 pm at Stone’s Hill Community Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Cosperville Baptist Church, 8825 N 250 W; Wawaka, IN.
