Alverna Maggart, 94, of Ligonier passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 4:07 AM at North Ridge Nursing Home in Albion. She was born on December 31, 1917 to Hugh and Susannah (Eberly) Warstler in Elkhart County, IN. On April 14, 1936 she was married to Russell Deloss Maggart, he preceded her in death in 1997.
Alverna will always be remembered as a family focused woman that was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had lived on the Hoosier Homestead farm since 1936, and was a member of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Maggart of New Haven and Jim (Hilda) Maggart of Hephzibah, Georgia; one daughter, Karen (Charlie) Tapp of Ligonier; three grandchildren, Michele (Christopher) Tobat of Waynesboro, Georgia, Charity Baldowski of Hephzibah, Georgia and Toni (Jeff) Whitney of Ligonier; seven great- grandchildren, Kaleb, Rose, Katelin, Kenzie, Arilyn, Breana, & Hunter; one brother, Arvid Warstler and one sister; Gloria Austin both of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Blaine Russell Maggart; her parents; and one brother, Adrian Warstler.
A funeral Service will be held in Alverna’s honor on Monday April 30, 2012 at 11AM With Sister Elsie Fregeau officiating at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN 46767. Burial will follow at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.
Pallbearers will be Troy Hershberger, Lowell Lee, Jeff Whitney, Hunter Whitney, Mike Maggart, and Ed Chantaca. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Eberly and Todd Beerman.
A visitation will be held on Sunday April 29, 2012 from 2-6 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 111 W Orange St; Cromwell, IN 46732.
