Daniel Bontrager

Daniel J. Bontrager, 94, of Wolcottville, Indiana passed away Saturday at his residence. Mr. Bontrager was born March 12, 1918 to Joseph and Mattie Bontrager in Lagrange County, Indiana. On December 14, 1939 he married Mary Bontrager; she preceded him in death on January 22, 1991. Mr. Bontrager spent his formative years in Lagrange County. He was a farmer. Mr. Bontrager was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He became an ordained minister in 1946 and in 1948 he became a Bishop.


Mr. Bontrager is survived by four sons: Reuben (Marietta) Bontrager of Ligonier, Samuel (Wilma) Bontrager of Wolcottville, Mervin (Carolyn Marie) of Wolcottiville, Joseph Bontrager of Wolcottiville; one daughter, Wilma (Olen) Bontrager; 34 grandchildren; 147 great- grandchildren; and 12 great- great grandchildren. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 3 brothers; and 5 sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 9:30 AM at the Corneal J. Troyers residence at 7530 S. 075 W. Wolcottivlle, IN. Burial will follow the service at Clear Springs Cemetery in Topeka. Friends may call at the Mervin Bontrager residence at 0821 W. 1200 N. Wolcottville, IN on Saturday, March 17, 2012 starting at 4:00 PM and all day Sunday, March 18, 2012.

Pall bearers will be David R. Bontrager, Mervin S. Bontrager, Vernon O. Bontrager, Weldon M. Bontrager, Karl M. Bontrager and Lonnie Bontrager.
