Esther Marie Berkey

Esther Marie Berkey, age 91, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Ligonier, passed away on October 6, 2011 at St. Anne’s Home in Fort Wayne.

She was born on April 21, 1920 to Carl & Esther (Behner) Brumbaugh in Mishawaka, IN. On December 14, 1940 she married Lloyd Berkey, he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Berkey was a 1938 graduate of Mishawaka High School and later became a cook for Ligonier High School. She attended Park Forest Methodist Church in Fort Wayne and liked to play cards. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She is survived by three sons, Eldon (Gayle) Berkey of Crest Hill, IL, Larry (Molly) Berkey of Dedham, MA, Dennis (Vicki) Berkey of Fremont, IN; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William & Phil; and two sisters, Ruth Ann & Barbara. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and three sisters.

There will be a graveside service held in Mrs. Berkey’s honor on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating.
