Lena Slabach Borntrager Suderman

Lena Slabach Borntager Suderman passed onto her heavenly home on Saturday morning July 9, 2011 at Goshen Hospital. Lena was born October 3, 1912 in LaGrange County, IN to John S. Miller & Martha (Miller) Miller. She married Abraham Slabach March 10, 1932, he passed away April 13, 1943. She later married Dan C Borntrager on November 4, 1949, he passed away October 17, 1977. She then married Bernard Suderman on November 26, 1995, he preceded her in death.

Lena lived most of her life in the Topeka area. She was a member of Maple Grove Church and had volunteered at LaGrange Hospital, clothes & food basket, & delivered Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by seven sons, Wilbur (Mary) Slabach of Wawaka, Lloyd (Deb) Slabach of Shipshewana, Wayne (Marilyn) Slabach of Wolcottville, Glen (Lynette) Slabach of Bristol, Robert (Shirley) Borntrager of Winter Haven, FL and Stanley (Barb) Borntrager of Indio, CA; one step-daughter, Sharon Sommers; one step-son, John (Norma) Bontrager of Howe; one son-in-law, Edward Johnson of Rotunda West, FL; two daughter-in-laws, Audrey Sunderman of Goshen & Norma (John) Borntrager of Howe; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews; two sisters, Mattie (Wilson) Swantz of Kalona, Iowa, & Katie (Enos) Miller of LaGrange, IN.

She was preceded in death by three husbands; a stillborn son, Larry Slabach; her parents; three brothers, Ervin, John Jr., & Samuel; six sisters, Elizabeth, Sarah, Neoma, Clara, Edna, & Mary; three step-daughters, Mary Christner, Amelia Johnson, & Lydia Hawkins, and one stepson, Lamar Suderman.

A funeral service in Lena’s honor will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10 AM at Maple Grove Church, 806 South Main St., Topeka, IN 46571with Pastor Harold Gingerich & Pastor Barry St. Clair officiating. Burial will follow at Bontrager Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chris, Marc, Jeff, & Fritz Slabach, Kenny Christner and Jerry Hawkins.

A visitation will be held at Maple Grove Church on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 2-8 PM and on Wednesday, July 13 from 2-8 PM.
