Merl “Don” Donald Galloway Jr., age 79, of Ligonier, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 5:00 AM at Avalon Village in Ligonier, IN. He was born on November 27, 1931 in Sparta Township to Merl D. & Erma C. (Lindsey) Galloway Sr. On October 5, 1963 he married Esther Anna Borntrager in Ligonier.
Mr. Galloway was a lifetime area resident. He moved from Cromwell in 1996 to Ligonier. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1950 and went on to serve his country honorably in the Marine Corps from 1952-1955. He retired from Lyon & Greenleaf after 26 years. He then went on to work for Kreager Brothers in Fort Wayne until 1998. He was also a member of Cromwell Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Esther, of Ligonier; two sons, Vernon Galloway of Syracuse, Donald Edward Galloway of Texas; four daughters, Colleen Galloway of Ligonier, Malinda (Rich) Henderson of Ligonier, Michele (Keith) Schmidt of LaGrange, Christine (Kenny) Sprague of Ligonier; 13 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jacob “Jake” (Nancy) Galloway of Topeka; and one sister, Mary Jane (Larry) Kegerreis of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John Galloway.
A funeral service will be held in Mr. Galloway’s honor on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Ligonier United Methodist Church with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Indian Village Cemetery in Cromwell.
There will be a time of visitation on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 6-8 PM and Friday, July 8, 2011 from 2-8 PM at the Ligonier United Methodist Church.
