Ronald Swartz

Ronald D. Swartz, age 77, of Ligonier, IN passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 8:40 AM at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

He was born on November 11, 1933 to William Henry & Norma Nineva (Householder) Swartz in Kendallville, IN. On February 17, 1956 he married Shirley Hutchings, she preceded him in death on April 6, 2011.

Mr. Swartz graduated from Wawaka High School in 1952 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. He retired as an over the road truck driver and had worked as a policeman & fireman in the 1960’s & 70’s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on semi’s, watching Cubs baseball & John Wayne movies.

Survivors include four children, Teresa McLaughlin of Wawaka, IN, Tona (Rich) Chupp of Ligonier, Tracy Swartz of Ligonier, Tana Smith of Ligonier; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Arlene) Swartz of Osceola; and one sister, Sally (Earl) Christlieb of Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Ozema Compton.

A funeral service will be held in Mr. Swartz's honor on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2 PM at The Crosswalk at Ligonier United Methodist Church, 466 Townline Rd., Ligonier, IN with Pastor Byron Kaiser officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier.
