Walter “Bob” Ball Jr., age 84, on June 15, 2011 completed his duties here on earth. On January 24, 1927 he was born to Walter R. & Mabel (Woodcox) Ball Sr.at Leiter’s Ford in Fulton County, IN. On June 17, 1951 he married Berdenia M. Jackson at the Fulton Evangelical Church.
Bob lived in Fulton County working as a salesman for Murphy Products. He also worked on Tractors after completing tractor training certification. In 1967 he and his family moved to Ligonier. He was the plant manager & regional sales manager for International Mineral and Chemical in Nappanee for Twenty five years. Bob continued in agriculture sales at Nappanne Farm Bureau and T & T Fertilizer. He retired in 2006. He served his country honorably in the United States Army-Air Force during World War II.
He attended the Ligonier Evangelical Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier, the Masonic Lodge of Ligonier and the Scottish Rite of South Bend. Bob was truly proud to be an American. He loved hauling grain for his son-in-law Leland, fishing and talking to people. He also was a tour guide for the Ligonier Radio Museum.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Berdenia Ball of Ligonier; two sons, Steven L. (Nadia) Ball of Fort Wayne, Phillip L. (Tina) Ball of Ligonier; two daughters, Mary Ann (Leland) Hooley of Ligonier, Mary Alice (Bryan) Yoes of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Jeremiah (Rhoda) Ball of Ligonier, Olivia (Jonathan) Kline of Huntington, Ashley, Megan, & Elizabeth Yoes all of Houston, TX, and four sisters, Leona Skinner of Elkhart, Marquerite Click of Denver, IN, Lucille (Don) Clifton of Culver, and Colleen Burkhart of Plainfield.
A funeral service will be held in Bob’s honor on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Ligonier Evangelical Church with Pastor Otto Beer & Troy Diersing officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Park Cemetery where military graveside honors will be conducted.
There will be a time of visitation on Thursday June 23, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, and on Friday June 24, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home- 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8PM following the visitation on Friday evening. There will also be calling from 10-10:30 prior to the funeral service at the church. At this time a mini concert will be performed by his daughter Mary Alice along with her family in honor of her dad.
