Robert Allen Noe, 78, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on August 24, 1932, in Kimmell, IN to Claude R. and Luella L. (Thatcher) Noe. He was the eighth child of ten. He grew up happily on his parents’ farm in Kimmell, IN. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and spent time in Hawaii before his deployment to Korea where he saw combat.
On August 22, 1953, he married Loretta L. Minne of Mishawaka, IN. They were married 55 years before her passing on September 13, 2008. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine (Tina) Romaine on November 22, 1974. He was also preceded by five siblings: Claudine Bolen, Norman Noe, Ray T. Noe, Roger Noe and Violet Mahnesmith.
He is survived by three children: Kathleen A. (Marvin) Hanson of Edwardsburg, MI, Michael A. (Tracey) Noe of Ligonier, and Douglas S. Noe of North Webster. His grandchildren are Megan (Cary) Watson, Allison (Jon) Blair, Karen Hanson, Whitney Noe, Morgan Noe, Summer Noe and Nicholas Noe, and one great-grandson, Cooper Watson. He is also survived by four sisters: Alice Deetz, Dorothy Wisniewski, Margaret Leslie and Sharon Chenoweth.
Over the years, Robert was employed by North American Van Lines, co-owned Diamond Green Lawn Care and Rental with his sons, and served as a police officer. Later in life, he continued his love of police work by volunteering as a security guard at various community functions. Other favorite pastimes included reading, sailing on his sailboat the “Oh My,” and wintering in his North Fort Myers, FL home.
A funeral service will be held in Mr. Noe’s honor on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN. Burial will be at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, IN.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, from 4-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home. Memorial contributions benefit the Loretta & Christine Noe Memorial Scholarship Fund.
