Shirley L. Smith

Shirley L. Smith, age 73, of Ligonier passed away April 25, 2011 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne following a brief illness. She was born on April 18, 1938 to Harry & Myrtle (Walburn) Altimus in Kendallville, IN. On June 16, 1956 she married Danny B. Smith in Green Center, IN.


She graduated from Albion High School in 1956. She was a dedicated homemaker, enjoyed bowling and watching sports. She was involved in numerous community activities over the years including serving as a 4H leader, and as the secretary & treasurer of the Indiana Tractor Pulling Association.

Survivors include her husband of over 54 years, Danny B. Smith of Ligonier; 3 children, Bill (Deb) Smith of Wawaka, Judy (Brian) Reeve of Ligonier, & Bob (Sharon) Smith of LaGrange; 9 grandchildren, Tom, Tonya, Tessa, Christina, Lisa, Tiffany, Erin, Lyle, & Lauren; 5 great grandchildren, Ashley, Ethan, Patrick, Courtney, & Evelyn; 3 Siblings, Glen (Jean) Altimus of Kendallville, Walter (Judy) Altimus of Columbia City, & Sanda (John) Bollinger of Wawaka. She was preceded in death by her parents, & a stillborn great granddaughter, Adarah.

A funeral service will be held in Shirley’s honor at 11AM on Friday April 29, 2011 with Pastor Jim Barnes officiating at Yeager Funeral Home- 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, IN 46767. Friends may call on Thursday April 28, 2011 from 3-5PM & 7-9PM, and 1 hour prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Cosperville Cemetery in Cosperville, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
