Maureen O. Black, age 93, of Albion passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at 11:30 PM at Northridge Village in Albion.
She was born on June 18, 1917 to Roy & Leta (Trittipo) Olinghouse in Ligonier, IN. On January 21, 1945 in Ligonier she married John Black at the Ligonier Presbyterian Church. He preceded her into heaven March 21, 1994.
Mrs. Black was a 1935 graduate of Topeka High School. She worked for the Ligonier Telephone Company as a telephone operator and was also a church secretary. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Albion, the United Methodist Women, Albion Eastern Star #178 and the Rural Mail Carrier’s Auxillary.
Survivors include three children, Judith (Charles) Cox of Elkhart, IN, Elizabeth (John) Firestone of Wawaka, IN, Thomas (Kathi) Black of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepfather, Walter H. Babb, infant brother, William, and an infant grandson, Adam Black.
A celebration of life service will be held in Mrs. Black’s honor on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1PM at Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastor Bret Frymier officiating. The service will begin with a ceremony conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, Prentiss Chapter #178. A private family burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion on Friday.
