Fay E. Brown, AKA “George Duncan”, age 77, of Big Lake of rural Noble County, passed away at 6:24 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Parkview Whitley Hospital of Columbia City following a brief illness.
He was born on April 16, 1933 to Donald E. & Lavonne (Conrad) Brown in Whitley County. On October 1, 1960 he married Marcella Hunt. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Mr. Brown was lifetime area resident and graduated from Churubusco High School. He was known as a "Jack of all trades and master of few". He had worked as a sheep shearer since the age of 8 years old, eventually becoming the Indiana State Sheep Shearing Champion in 1963. Over the years he had also worked as a truck driver, a butcher, a painter, and along with his wife, had owned and operated Brown's Variety Storage at Big Lake since 1991.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church. He had a special passion for the mission field and had served all across the United States, as well as serving in Jamaica and Africa.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Brown of Big Lake; eight children, Brenda (Dan) Becker of Goshen, Paula (John McNeal) Conrad of Wolcottville, Mark (Chris) Brown of Albion, Terrie (Sherman) Robinson of Fremont, Penny Dhonau of Ligonier, Elaine Nichols of Shipshewana, Rebecca (Mitch) Flannery of Olympia, KY, Shelia (Mike) Hoppus of Columbia City, IN; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean (Sharon) Brown of Phoenix, AZ; and one sister, Sharon Lee Notestine of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Wesley Steven Brown in 2007.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, IN with Pastor Byron Kaiser and Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery in Albion.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home.
