Former Ligonier Mayor, Grover H. Patrick, age 86, of Ligonier, IN passed away on Tuesday October 26, 2010 at 2:42 PM at Northridge Village in Albion.

He was born on November 26, 1923 in Yale, Kentucky to Green and Lou Ellen (Reed) Patrick. He moved to the Ligonier area in 1937. On May 11, 1947 he married Laura "Katie" Tully. She preceded him in death in 1986.

Mr. Patrick served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1943-1945 and also in the Army from 1949-1953. He owned and operated several service stations over the years and served as Mayor of Ligonier from 1972-1975 and 1984-1991. He was also on the city council from 1964-1967 , 1968-1971 and 1980-1983. In 1990 he was named Citizen of the Year .

He attended the Ligonier Evangelical Church and was a member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, VFW and many numerous civic oragnizations.He was also a volunteer fireman.

Mr. Patrick is survived by his children, Mona (Bob) Ritchie of Kimmell, Jeffrey L. (Tammy) Patrick of Republic, Missouri; grandchildren, Paul Briggs, Laura Stump, Joseph Patrick, Rebecca Patrick, Jacy Salzbrun, Troy Ritchie; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

A funeral service will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10 AM at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier with Pastor Troy Diersing of Ligonier Evangelical Church. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 1-4 & 6-8 PM at Yeager Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 8 PM immediately following the viewing on Friday evening. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post 243 in Ligonier.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Angie of Whitley County Hospice along with all the staff of Northridge Village for the exceptional care that was given to Mr. Patrick during his illness.
